Storage!
When planning a renovation it is essential to consider all possible areas for storage.
The storage required for each room is different, for example, bedrooms require large wardrobes to fit clothes, toys & personal items, whereas Kitchens need bench space, pantry for food & drawers for cutlery. When building new, it is easy to add space for storage, but in an existing house it can be challenging.
Look for unused space
Look around your room. Where are the areas for potential storage? This may be an empty corner you can add a set of drawers to, or a plain wall which could have shelving boxes put on. A coffee table you can replace with a storage box or a sofa which doubles as a sofa bed for guests.
Is there no place for storage in your room? Think about cutting into the structure of the room. Can you add wall niches into the wall cavity, refit a door to a cavity slide to not lose the ‘swing’ space of the door, can you put items into the ceiling space, or trap doors under the floor?
All it takes is a creative eye to add areas to place your items. You may be surprised on how much extra room you can add to your home!
